He's on his way to leave. He doesn't yet know exactly what he'll be doing, but with the snow melting, it seems like an as good time as any to see if anything has changed in their prison. Of course, he's heard that someone is outside, but he only intends to take a quick look to make sure it's no one untoward or anyone who might have less than good intentions. Something about this person seems familiar, though, even before he can see them.
As soon as he does, he knows exactly who it is. Only it can't actually be possible. So it has to be another trick by the Technicians, just one more thing to make him hurt. It's little by a dull ache, duller than most aches already are for a witcher, but he still thinks about her often, wondering if there was some way he could have stopped what happened, something he could have done differently, done to help her.
