lake party invite + mingle (open)
Who: any and everyone!
Where: the lake and nearby!
When: right now! (july 7th, afternoon)
What: motha 👏 fuckin 👏 lake 👏 party
Warnings: Language (!!!) for now, will be added as needed!

[no, this is not a joke and yes, it's an actual invite to a party over the network from the username: cock.licking.idiot (and no, that's not a joke, either).
those who decide that they'd rather not be square will arrive at some unspecified patch of lake shore (thanks, klaus) at a similarly unspecified time (good work, asshat) to discover that something resembling a slapdash but heartfelt lake party along the northern waterfront. a couple of tables have been dragged out of nearby cabins and now hold a probably inadvisable quantity of foods, at least half of which don't belong at a party by any means. is this what rationing looks like? this is definitely what rationing looks like. there's also an alcohol table, filled pretty sparsely early on in the party but gathering bottles and cans throughout the day. (word of mod says feel free to wing it on what kind of alcohol we have!).
a number of chairs sit in a wobbly line in the stone-filled waterfront sand, most of them not meant for beachgoing but nearly all of them able to recline. about fifty feet down the beach seems to be the splash zone, where all water horseplay exists well out of range of splashing those sitting in beachside chairs. some people dive or cannonball off the mostly-sturdy pier, while others seem to be batting around a-... is that a beach ball they have? no, it seems to be a balloon that says "get well soon". how fitting. please, someone bring them a fucking beach ball.
(this is a mingle! go ahead and make top-levels or tag into other people's.)]

Naminé | OPEN
[ Without any indication of when the party is, Naminé has quite a lot of opportunity to waffle about whether or not being a geometric shape is preferable to the alternative of accepting a thoroughly vague invitation from an unknown source. Really, though, what else is she supposed to do? It might serve to help her take stock of who is and isn't trapped in here along with her, if nothing else.
But never having been to a party before, she's not entirely prepared for it. She's not even really prepared for how many people are there the first time she spots it forming, somewhat by accident and from a great enough distance that she only feels a little awkward about stopping to look before she leaps. Paused in the shadow of a tree, she's likely quite visible where she is, what with the paleness of her clothing and hair against the darker trunk.
Clearly there's nothing to worry about here. Just some lonesome figure in the distance in a suspiciously ghost-like white dress creeping on the festivities in an enclosed murderbox that's already expressed vague supernatural threats. ]
[ || B. Arrival (Take Two)
[ But fortunately a bit of reconnaissance informs her that people are - apparently - bringing food. She does a little backtracking, picks up a small box of ice cream bars (and a bag of chips as an afterthought), and with these in hand does her best not to draw attention to herself as she shuffles in to put them down with the rest of the offerings.
And after that she's... there. That's about the most that can be said of her while she hangs uncertainly around the periphery of the party, lurking like she's not entirely sure she was actually invited. Maybe it's got to do with how many people there are. That is to say, not many by the standards of just about anyone who's lived in a populated world with regular social events, but for her - it's probably the largest number of humans (or humanoids) she's been in the physical presence of at one time in her entire life. Cut her some slack, it's a little overwhelming.
Still, she looks awfully lonely over there, tucked against a tree or curled up on the edge of the dock. (She stays too far back from the water to actually put her feet into it; they said the lake was safe, but...) ]
[ || C. Refreshments
[ Nobody or not, Naminé remains a teenager who needs sustenance every now and again. So although she's somewhat reluctant to venture closer to the snacks with strangers about, eventually she braves the harrowing trek (of a few steps) to explore the options. Most of it is either foreign to her or unappealing, but eventually something catches her eye. When she goes to reach for it, though -- well, it's not even that someone else is reaching for the same thing so much as she notices that someone else is there. She pauses mid-grab, hand pulling back a little too quickly to look nonchalant, as if she's half-expecting to be scolded.
There's no verbal apology, but those sure are some guilty eyes she's giving whoever it is that's shown up, despite them likely having done nothing to offend. ]

B
[As someone who tended to be quieter and off to the side or who preferred to hide in the shadows, Simon isn't in the middle of the party either. He's mostly there to see if anyone he knows shows up. So far he hadn't seen or heard any familiar faces on the network or been able to make contact otherwise. Scanning the crowd there's no luck on that front either.
He does however see the lone small figure sitting under a tree at edge of the party. Simon wonders if it's part of his programming or... or maybe he just feels sympathy, but she looks young, no doubt she's scared of what's going on. Scared of all these people she doesn't know. The android makes his way over, offering a little wave to try and come off friendly. Not that Simon could come off threatening if he tried. Standing a little away from where she is Simon smiles.]
Do you mind if I sit here too?

[ The girl sees him coming from the corner of her vision and looks up, blinking big blue eyes. Perhaps she ought to have expected friendly company at a party, but surprise still sneaks into her expression as he waves at her. It looks for a second as though she's not quite sure what to do about it; her hand begins to lift to return the gesture on reflex only to pause uncertainly, sagging again as she regards him.
She's small for her age, a skinny little thing right on the edge of being too thin. Her expression is difficult to read at first, her gaze wary - and maybe that's understandable when they've been trapped by a bunch of strangers with a bunch of strangers, who may or may not have ill intents of their own. But her features aren't unkind, and though he's guessed right that she's afraid, she holds it in well, focus lighting briefly on his smile. It seems to remind her that she probably ought to return the same pleasantry, and she does - although it's a wan expression, more a brief suggestion of an upturn at her mouth than a proper friend-making grin. ]
No, [ she says after a beat, like it didn't just take her one thorough inspection of him to come to that conclusion. Her voice is soft and subtly uncertain, but sincere enough; ] I don't mind.
[ Her hands fall to her sides, fingertips pressing into the ground like she half-thinks she ought to move to make room for him - but there's plenty of space already, and presently she abandons the motion in favor of peering up at him again. Either she's unaware how obvious it is that she's still examining him, or she's otherwise unconcerned about making it a secret. ]

Now some stranger is coming to talk to her when she'd put herself away from everyone. Yeah. Simon doesn't mind at all that it takes her a good moment to answer him or that she continues to look at him as if trying to ascertain if he has any ill intent or not. In the end she does answer though, attempts a polite smile back at him and he'll move to sit. He leaves a good amount of space between them as she's already uncomfortable, he doesn't want to make it worse.
Sitting with one leg bent at the knee, he'll sigh some what wistfully, looking over at the party.]
Not really your thing either, huh?
[Parties and celebrations weren't exactly on the menu for androids where he's from.]
no subject
Briefly, she's quiet, features bemused. As anxious as she is about all the unfamiliar individuals milling about, she's had a good track record so far with the other people she's met here; perhaps she could stand to be friendlier. But the thought doesn't have long to form, because the sigh she hears from beside her draws her attention the android's way again, even before he speaks up. Naminé falters at the question, less because she wasn't anticipating conversation and more because it's not as easy to respond to his inquiry as it should be. ]
Not exactly, [ she agrees after a beat. Hesitant, she debates with herself about how much she really ought to say. But in the end, perhaps it couldn't hurt to admit; ] I've never... actually been to a party before, so I don't really know what I should be doing at one.
[ Not that having practice would have made her any less of a wallflower, truthfully. (That part's just inherent in her nature.) Lips pursing slightly, she resumes her study of him - although this time it has a different, more curious tone. With a delicate tilt of her head, ]
Do you-- not like them?
no subject
No it's not that, I guess... maybe I'm sort of in the same boat as you.
[Technically.]
But I do know that parties are supposed to be fun. You hang out with friends or make new ones.
[Simon glances her way for a second, then back to the party.]
I'd say you should have a drink, but it looks like the majority of what's there is alcohol so. Perhaps not.
no subject
Her hesitation persists thereafter, held in place by the mention of that word; friends. Of course, then another term comes along and shakes her out of it, causing her to give a startled glance at the refreshments table. ]
It is? [ She wouldn't know the difference between alcohol and the other drinks - not by sight, anyway. Most of her memories, secondhand and otherwise, don't really cover that sort of thing. (Even the types of liquor they probably actually have in the worlds she's familiar with.) ] … In that case, I'm glad I didn't try anything when I was over there earlier.
[ Because that would not have been a pleasant surprise. The frown on her features, however, has less to do with that fact and owes more to Simon's other suggestion. She seems to be considering it carefully, probably more so than is warranted. Finally, she admits, a touch somberly and with a small shake of her head, ]
I'm not sure that I'd be any good at making new friends. [ Given what she believes to be her own nature. ] And I don't really...
[ Have any. Except that's something she's less certain of now, in light of the supposed past. She's forgotten a lot, to hear Lalli tell it. It's enough to make her falter, then amend, ]
I don't know many of the people here. [ Which causes her to realize, rather all at once, that she and Simon might share that boat, too. It'd certainly make sense, considering his decision to approach her. Though she's been wary up 'til now, sympathy of her own colors her expression as she turns to regard him, sidelong and shy but with a subtle hint of genuine concern. ]
What about you? Are you all alone?
[ In the broader sense, obviously, not the immediate one. ]

Most of his life after waking up had been hiding away from humans and living in a dingy falling apart freighter, wondering when the next of their people would shut down cause they didn't have the means to fix them. Or wondering when the next android would find their hideaway, broken and scared.
Cheerful things like that.]
I could take a better look, maybe someone new to the party has brought something else. Juice or soda. If you're thirsty that is.
[He doesn't mind. Maybe a part of his coding still insists he take care of children or younger humans. Old habits are hard to shake off.]
Mm... I haven't seen anyone I recognize yet, but they may not be here considering. It's kind of odd to throw a party when you're kidnapped don't you think?
[Simon attempts a small bit of humor, mouth quirking slightly.]
This is all pretty unnerving, scary... maybe if not making friends then I guess allies. Friendship can always come later, right?
no subject
And as unaccustomed as she is to kindness, she looks somewhat taken aback by Simon's offer. Not because her caution goes so far as to think he has some nefarious plan in mind, but because it's not every day someone takes enough interest to help her out of the goodness of their heart. (Most of the people she met before coming here didn't even have hearts.) ]
That's very kind of you, [ she responds after it's had a moment to sink in; she still sounds a mite shell-shocked, legitimate though her gratitude is. Her brow knits slightly as she recovers enough to contemplate the suggestion itself, her hands curling together. ] I am getting a little thirsty, but-- I wouldn't want to be any trouble...!
[ Even though he's the one who put forth the possibility of assisting. The rest of what he has to say is much easier for her to parse, and as such she's a bit more relaxed when she admits, her own mouth on the verge of a smile, ]
It is pretty strange. I guess maybe the person who thought we should do this is strange, too.
[ At least, the notion of such a gathering bearing any sort of resemblance to a social event intended to be fun is bizarre. On the more practical side of things, and with a soberer expression, she observes, ]
But it's good for everyone to know who else is here. At least if we've met one another, that's a little less scary. We won't all be total strangers anymore the next time something dangerous happens.
[ To his comment on friendship, she gives a small nod. That's certainly a thought she can agree to, even if she mentally applies it more to normal people than to someone like herself. Naminé's not quite as carefree as one might expect of a girl as young as she is; bemused, she adds, ]
I don't see any reason why we shouldn't look after each other, but...
[ Her eyes skate briefly over the crowd. It's still rather overwhelming, watching them all together like that. There's so much more activity than she's used to. ]
I know not everyone feels that way.
[ A lot of the Organization's members certainly didn't seem to care much for mutual goals; most of them appeared more interested in their own agendas, and that colors her expectations of others to this day. ]
