[no, this is not a joke and yes, it's an actual invite to a party over the network from the username: cock.licking.idiot (and no, that's not a joke, either).

those who decide that they'd rather not be square will arrive at some unspecified patch of lake shore (thanks, klaus) at a similarly unspecified time (good work, asshat) to discover that something resembling a slapdash but heartfelt lake party along the northern waterfront. a couple of tables have been dragged out of nearby cabins and now hold a probably inadvisable quantity of foods, at least half of which don't belong at a party by any means. is this what rationing looks like? this is definitely what rationing looks like. there's also an alcohol table, filled pretty sparsely early on in the party but gathering bottles and cans throughout the day. (word of mod says feel free to wing it on what kind of alcohol we have!).

a number of chairs sit in a wobbly line in the stone-filled waterfront sand, most of them not meant for beachgoing but nearly all of them able to recline. about fifty feet down the beach seems to be the splash zone, where all water horseplay exists well out of range of splashing those sitting in beachside chairs. some people dive or cannonball off the mostly-sturdy pier, while others seem to be batting around a-... is that a beach ball they have? no, it seems to be a balloon that says "get well soon". how fitting. please, someone bring them a fucking beach ball.

We'll get out immediately if there are any weird lake monsters, I promise.

[ But he's taking his vest off anyway, so clearly it's fine. ]

[klaus, on the other hand, already came to the party prepared in colorful swimtrunks and an open button-up shirt. so, don't mind him, just casually watching rhys undress.]

[theprezident]

[ That's okay, Klaus is free to.

While he talks, he works on the buttons of his shirt. ]

Yeah, sure, but can I run fast enough? That's the question. I may have gotten into shape on Pandora but I've been living a pretty cushy CEO life for a couple of years now. Not sure I still have it in me.

[ Then, he starts toeing off his shoes, sways dangerously for a moment, and reaches out to grab Klaus's shoulder for balance. ]

[good, because he's gonna.]

I dunno, can you? If CEO life has been too easy on you, I've got a good feeling I can handle running, so I'll just scoop you up and dash like a madman. No problem, yeah?

[had rhys not already grabbed for his shoulder, klaus would've thrown his arms out to catch him, but as it stands, he hooks an arm around his friend's waist and steadies them both instead.] Easy there, sweetheart. The monsters won't have a chance if you break your neck first.

Are you telling me you can carry me and outrun a monster at the same time?

[ Honestly, he would swoon. ]

[well, if that's the case—]

Listen, I've never actually tried, but you're damn right I would for you, sweetheart.

Not gonna lie, that's the best pick-up line from you so far.

[ Finally, he's stripped down to just his boxers, and he gathers everything together to put it by a tree a bit further from the water. Just so they don't end up getting splashed and he'll know to look for them near the trees.

No, he doesn't trust himself to find them all that easily while pretty drunk. ]

Hey, sometimes I'm romantic! Or can sort of guess the right thing to say.

[at least he won't be completely nude if they can't find his clothes afterward. let's be real, it's good klaus still has his clothes since he wouldn't give a single fuck about who might see him butt-naked.

he slugs from his cup again, moves to set it amongst some rocks to be found later then makes his way further out into the lake.]

Romantic is one way to put it I guess.

[ The concept of being chased by monsters, however, is very much not.

He actually doesn't even hesitate (much) before he follows Klaus into the water. Up close like this, it's almost creepier that the water is so clear, but he can sort of forgo that thought because he hadn't realised how gross the heat made everything and this is so much better. Now he doesn't even care if he gets eaten. ]

Is ‘stupid’ the other way to put it? Because that seems like what a lot of my other pick-up lines are.

[so far, they haven't got to worry about any of that nonsense. (later on down the line though... sorry, plans change, and sometimes not for the better.)

as soon as the water is chest-deep, klaus sinks down into it all the way up to his neck, shivering faintly despite the absolute relief he feels at the sudden chill cooling him. better he needs a few minutes to adjust to that rather than sweating his ass off even when just in a pair of swimming trunks. seriously, who would've thought horrortown could have suffocatingly hot weather?]

[theprezident]

Stupid's the other way.

[ Rhys is pretty quick to dip his whole body, head included. And because they happen to be right there and the opportunity presents itself, he's going to reach out and grab Klaus's calves. Not pulling - yet - but just waiting to see what the reaction will be. ]

[channellings]

Thanks, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

[is it sarcasm? maybe just a little, but klaus is smirking anyhow following a playful eye-roll. also, is rhys trying to be sneaky? he does know the water is clearer than crystal, they were just talking about it—] Wah! [he exclaims once his legs are grabbed, wasting no time attempting to swim away.]

[ Maayyybe he forgot, but it clearly doesn't matter, so whatever. As soon as Klaus moves his legs, Rhys very nearly loses his grip, but he manages to keep it for now. Klaus might want to kick a little harder.

He tightens his hold slightly - not enough to hurt, of course - and then tries yanking Klaus down underwater with him. ]

[kicking harder would be the right idea, wouldn't it? and it's likely what he would've done if— if klaus were actually trying to escape. as it stands, he isn't putting up enough of a fight for it to seem like he wants rhys off him.

so whenever rhys's grip tightens, he inhales a quick breath, lets himself go under and clutches onto him instead while they sink down.]

[ Well, that's not really what he expected. This is pretty weird, but he also sees no other option than to return the favour by holding on just as tightly and grinning like an idiot. At some point they'll have to go back up for air, probably. But not yet. ]
