[no, this is not a joke and yes, it's an actual invite to a party over the network from the username: cock.licking.idiot (and no, that's not a joke, either).

those who decide that they'd rather not be square will arrive at some unspecified patch of lake shore (thanks, klaus) at a similarly unspecified time (good work, asshat) to discover that something resembling a slapdash but heartfelt lake party along the northern waterfront. a couple of tables have been dragged out of nearby cabins and now hold a probably inadvisable quantity of foods, at least half of which don't belong at a party by any means. is this what rationing looks like? this is definitely what rationing looks like. there's also an alcohol table, filled pretty sparsely early on in the party but gathering bottles and cans throughout the day. (word of mod says feel free to wing it on what kind of alcohol we have!).

a number of chairs sit in a wobbly line in the stone-filled waterfront sand, most of them not meant for beachgoing but nearly all of them able to recline. about fifty feet down the beach seems to be the splash zone, where all water horseplay exists well out of range of splashing those sitting in beachside chairs. some people dive or cannonball off the mostly-sturdy pier, while others seem to be batting around a-... is that a beach ball they have? no, it seems to be a balloon that says "get well soon". how fitting. please, someone bring them a fucking beach ball.

(this is a mingle! go ahead and make top-levels or tag into other people's.)

[ Green has been kind of hoping to see someone he knows here. Another imPort, fresh from De Chima or Nonah or Heropa. Heck, he'd even take someone from Maurtia Falls. But no one here looks like anyone he'd met his first time in America. Everyone was new. Which is fine. Green can handle new people. Maybe he couldn't have, a year ago, when he was fresh out of the attic. But he knows how to make friends now.

And here is someone new he can make friends with! He turns in his beach chair to face Simon and smiles warmly. ]

Hello, Simon. I'm Green.

[ It feels a little strange, introducing himself with his new name, outside of the context of the people who'd helped him choose it. But this is who he is now. Green. Not Ash. ]

[He's not sure if Green knows or can tell that he's like him too, but a part of Simon is afraid to ask. So he won't. Not yet at least. Still he smiles back either way.]

Green, that's an interesting name.

[Simon wonders if he picked it. He's often wondered about picking a new name for himself at times. They're all given names when activated by their owners and he kept that name even after he'd escaped that life.]

I chose it myself, actually. [ Well, that answers that. ] Green Newman. I know, the surname's a little heavy handed, and the first name is unusual, but I had some friends named Red and Blue, so I thought... Maybe I could match?

[ He always liked the color green. The rolling hills by the cliffs that Martha had showed him. That rainjacket he owned. Green signified new life, new beginnings. And that's what this name was for Ash. For Green. ]
arecompatible: @ bungalows (we'll count this as a smile)

Maybe it is, but if that's what you picked and you like it that's what matters. Right?

[Green Newman is heavy handed and perhaps silly sounding at first, but that he picked a new name for himself is the start of being his own person. It's admirable. Simon wouldn't fault that or make fun of it.]

I've thought about it myself before, but I guess I can't think of something that would fit me. Maybe I just look too much like a Simon to change my name.

[Or perhaps he liked the way Simon sounded when Markus said it too much. It's hard to say.]

Right.

[ He's pretty proud of his name choice, even if it is a bit of an obvious one. ]

Why've you thought about changing your name? I know why I did it, but mine was sort of a special case.

[ Most people aren't literally a copy of someone else. For most people, there's no need to create a new identity for themselves. ]
